Juana Martin‘s Fall Winter 24 Couture Collection, titled “Pared de Cal,” explores contrasting themes—virtue and vice, purity and temptation—through the lens of eternal Andalusia. This collection reflects the struggle between good and evil encapsulated in the dichotomy of white and black. Inspired by the famous Spanish proverb introduced by Saint Teresa, “between nuns and monks, lime and stone wall,” the collection resonates with the imagery of Andalusia’s whitewashed villages, drawing a parallel between these visual motifs and the moral dichotomies they represent.
The collection presents this theme through its stark contrasts in color and material, balancing the innocent and the provocative. Materials like feathers, Chantilly lace, and gauze are used as metaphors. The lace clings to the body, suggesting a form that is at once ethereal and earthly, while the gauze veils appear almost liquid, as if melting away to reveal the hidden desires beneath. This interplay of concealment and revelation is a signature of Juana Martin, who creates garments that hover between disclosure and concealment.
